When I moved to Albuquerque, I was looking for a change. I was excited, but scared. One day, after looking for the library, I was coming home, and I saw a car with an Avon sign. I wrote the number down, and I called. Ms. Caroline signed me up. She is very nice, and I enjoyed this interview with her.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: Do you feel education is the key out of poverty?
CAROLINE: It is one of the keys out of poverty.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: WHAT ARE OTHER KEYS?
CAROLINE: Effective land use, economic strategies, and labor markets.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: What college education do you have?
CAROLINE: I have an Associate Architectural Science from Technical Vocational Institute (CNM).
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: How has college made your life better?
CAROLINE: It prepared me for the career that I had chosen at that time in my life.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: What is your profession now?
CAROLINE: An Avon Independent Sales Representative and Qualifying Real Estate Broker.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?
CAROLINE: I hope to have retired and enjoying life looking back on my professional career and proud of what I have accomplished.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: Have you made a million dollars selling Avon?
CAROLINE: Not yet; I am on my way there.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: Who are your major Avon customers?
CAROLINE: I am proud of the diversity of customers I service.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: Have you experienced any legal problems selling Avon?
CAROLINE: No.
Ms. Caroline is very nice. I hope to interview her on my future radio show. See her web site at www.youravon.com/chardison. Until my next great interview, dream big!

STOCK PAPERS
I finally received my stock papers! Yes. I am on my way to do my taxes. The time is approximately 4:21 p.m. It usually takes about one hour to do my taxes. I tell the front desk person when I arrive that I need a second year person because I have stock, Independent Sales Representative, etc. I have been going to the same tax place for 19 years. I will be back in a couple of hours! SMILE!
I just got back from the tax place. When I walked in the door, the time on the cable box had 7:02 p.m. I told the receptionist I needed a second year tax associate, and it would take one hour. Please be sure she has had her break/lunch. It took approximately 1.5 hours! I learned a lot. My tax preparer gave me a lot of FINANCIAL advice personally and for my businesses. The self-employment taxes are what I really need to pay more attention to the details.
The fees were high as always. The total cost of preparing my taxes cost more than my car payment! Fees included $29.99 for refund account fee, $12.66 finance charge, and $20 check processing fee, etc. I can count this tax firm because it is nationwide. I have been going 19 years, and next year (2011) will make 20 years!

Kevin Burdick (available on iTunes)
My friend KEVIN BURDICK did an interview with me. He stated, "Absolutely. I'm a huge advocate for education, so I would love to help..."
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: Do you feel education is the key out of poverty?
KEVIN BURDICK: One of the things my dad always said to me is, "You can do music, but make sure you have a 'sure thing.'" Education is the one 'sure thing' in this country. I got my bachelors degree in Geography. After ten years working in the private sector in healthcare technology, I was able to retire and do music full time. A degree is the one 'sure thing' in this country and can enable any man or women from any part of America to be able to rise above whatever circumstances they were born into.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: What college education do you have?
KEVIN BURDICK: Bachelors Degree from Brigham Young University in Geography with minors in music and psychology.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: How has college made your life better?
KEVIN BURDICK: Everything I have in my life, I can directly attribute to sticking with my college education.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: Tell me how you got started with singing?
KEVIN BURDICK: I've been singing since I was a kid. My Grandma was in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and so singing and music is just in my blood. I started piano lessons at age 6 and was one of the top tenors in the state of Arizona my senior year of high school.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: Tell me the legal problems in/with the singing?
KEVIN BURDICK: Well, with music there are tons of contracts to review-record label contracts, distribution contracts, venue or performance contracts, management agreements. It helps to have a bit of a legal mind. Although I've been screwed over on the occasional deal, for the most part, I've been pretty lucky to avoid any serious problems.
SPANISH-AMIGA$$: What advice would you give future singers?
KEVIN BURDICK: Go to college. Continue to study singing. Absorb as much as you can, and never give up on your dream.
He and I have already discussed him coming on my future TV show. I can't wait to meet him in person, get his autograph, and have him sing LIVE on my future TV or radio show because I dream big! We are friends on tagged.com, so please see both his web sites at http://www.tagged.com/kevinburdick and www.kevinburdick.com. EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION ON VALENTINE'S DAY 2010
Extreme MakeOver: Home Edition on ABC on Valentine's Day 2010 melted my heart! The special celebrity guest was Tyler Perry, www.tylerperry.com. The two families were The Tripp Family and Tom Lewis. They both love all the children in the neighborhood and mentor them. These two touching stories made me even more eager about starting my academy for future entrepreneurs!
The Tripp family were parents Tamara and Nikema and their three boys. They have a bus ministry where they pick up the local children and provide emotional support. The Tripps' have 7 blue buses. Tyler Perry used his own money to repair the Tripps' seven buses. He was very moved by the incredible love Tamara and Nikema show the neighborhood children. ABC was also moved, so they sent the Tripp's bus children to Disney to join them! Their home makeover was beautiful. The game room had a bus theme and was very large to accommodate more children.
Tom Lewis operates a school called The Fishing School. Like Tamara and Nikema Tripp, Mr. Lewis provides emotional support to the neighborhood children. His school was very small, and he had to turn families away. His school is now larger thanks to ABC. Tyler Perry was so moved, he opened a foundation in Mr. Lewis name.
This show was perfect for Valentine's Day. I love Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I always cry with joy when I watch it. Now, everyday people can apply on-line to get on the bus and be a part of the "magic" on the show. I would love to apply. I even have show in mind similar to this show because I love it so much! Until I meet Ty Pennington one day, I hope Extreme Makeover: Home Edition remains on the air for the next 30 years! This show was all about education. I loved it!

SUPER MODELS, SINGERS, AND ACTORS
Education is very important in the entertainment industry. I have heard Super Models Tyra Banks and Tyson Beckford say many times, "This is a business...." I saw Tyson Beckford on the tv show The Big Idea, and he said, "...there is no class for this business, but you need to learn all you can about it. Study it." I see Tyra Banks on her TV show America's Next Top Model teaching the girls about the business side of the modeling industry all the time. She especially warns them about contracts. That episode scared me! But, education is a key to the business! Education is very important!
It's a fact that Michael Jackson holds a world record for charities. I love his charities, especially Society for Singers (www.singers.org). Check out the page. You need to know your rights as a singer. It all comes back to education. Education is very important.
The main point that I want to make is asked in the following set of questions?
(1)Do you remember the singing artist that changed his name in protest to his record company? The argument was about ownership of the songs. (The answer is Prince.)
(2)Do you remember the disagreement between Michael Jackson and his record company? I remember those disturbing images I saw!
(3)Do you remember the child actor that allegedly went broke because his managers took a lot of his money? The managers were his own parents! I will let you google that one.
Again, it all goes back to education. You need to know your rights (and responsibilities) whether you are a super model, singer, actor, TV personality (which has many journalism guidelines), comedian, etc. There are rules and regulations to every profession and job.

THE MO'NIQUE SHOW ON BET
I watch The Mo'Nique Show nightly on BET. On the nights I have class, I can only catch the last 10 or 15 minutes. I like the show for several reasons. First, Mo'nique has her guests talk about how they got started in the business. Then, she quickly asks the guests to talk about the business side of the entertainment industry. I love that part. The future entertainers need to realize the bad side of being famous, such as tabloids and financial disaster because of lack of knowledge on the part of the entertainer!
Second, Mo'Nique gives several examples to explain most things she says. It's a fact that Mo'Nique was a Queen of Comedy. She told her heart-felt story of the struggle. She also said, "I could not show scenes from The Queens of Comedy Tour because I do not own that...." Then she said, "We need to own our stuff...." It all comes back to education.

JOB FAIR AND HAIR SHOW
My university held a job fair Thursday, February 11, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Union Building Ballrooms. I went quickly after I got off work and updated my resume. Then I went upstairs to the job fair. It was nice. There were many employers there. I received many free pens, pencils, and notepads. I passed out my resume and took cards or flyers to apply on-line. With a college graduation, you want to use it in your field. I know it's hard to get a job even with an education. I encourage all of you to keep going to job fairs. We didn't go to college for nothing. We want billion dollar jobs!
As I was processing my mail yesterday, I came across a flyer for a hair show. I checked out the web site, and the event sounds exciting. I would love to go. The prices are reasonable. Always stay up to date in your career with the latest trends. Take continuing education classes and never stop learning!

RESULTS OF USING MY HOMEMADE DEODORANT
Recall in an earlier blog that I said I took the class BODY PRODUCTS MADE AT HOME I on Sunday, February 7, 2010. I tried out my homemade deodorant on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. It worked. About 1 p.m., I noticed that the deodorant felt lighter on my arm, just like the regular deodorant I buy at the store. I simply applied more.
I don't know about you, but supplies always seem to run low on Monday and payday is three or four day later. Now, with this homemade deodorant, I can save money. The ingredients used to make the deodorant are used in your kitchen. I laughed when I saw the main ingredient. I enjoy learning new things, and I am excited about the future classes I want to take. As always, I have to check my budget.

HISTORY OF VALENTINE'S DAY
Why do we celebrate Valentine's Day? What is the purpose? How did it get started? What does it really represent? Does Valentine's Day have a "history" like all the other holidays? Who started Valentines Day and why?
The following is a brief history of Valentine's Day according to Borgna Brunner, "Which St. Valentine this early pope intended to honor remains a mystery: according to the Catholic Encyclopedia, there were at least three early Christian saints by that name. One was a priest in Rome, another a bishop in Terni, and of a third St. Valentine almost nothing is known except that he met his end in Africa. Rather astonishingly, all three Valentines were said to have been martyred on Feb. 14.
Most scholars believe that the St. Valentine of the holiday was a priest who attracted the disfavor of Roman emperor Claudius II around 270. At this stage, the factual ends and the mythic begins. According to one legend, Claudius II had prohibited marriage for young men, claiming that bachelors made better soldiers. Valentine continued to secretly perform marriage ceremonies but was eventually apprehended by the Romans and put to death. Another legend has it that Valentine, imprisoned by Claudius, fell in love with the daughter of his jailer. Before he was executed, he allegedly sent her a letter signed "from your Valentine." Probably the most plausible story surrounding St. Valentine is one not focused on Eros (passionate love) but on agape (Christian love): he was martyred for refusing to renounce his religion."
This is very interesting. I did not know this. It appears every holiday has a history of how it began. Nevertheless, Valentine's Day is celebrated by many. Shopping outlets make lots of money on this day, which most people call love day! Well, Happy Valentine's Day!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY 2010
Happy Valentine's Day 2010 everyone! It's 10:56 a.m., and I have purchased one of my favorite movies to watch, Michael Jackson's This Is It. I have been so busy that I have not had time to watch it. My co-worker kept asking me about the movie. I told her, "I will watch it Valentines Day." I also purchased hot sauce for my popcorn and a 3 liter soda. I will watch it about noon and report back! SMILE!
It's 2:15 p.m., and I just finished watching the Michael Jackson movie This Is It. It was awesome! I started popping my popcorn about twenty minutes before noon. I put the movie in my pc dvd player, and I had to stand back. The color was so bright, just like at the movies. I sat at the table where I eat. I was having my own Valentine's Day party because I just kept eating! My eyes filled with water when the movie showed Michael and his brothers when they were small children. The movie was excellent, and it was one of the best investments I have ever made with my hard earned money!
Now, my blog is about education, so I will speak from an educational point of view about the movie. I have a secretary degree and a computer degree. How many classes did I see in the movie? The movie was packed with classes I had in both my degrees, especially Business Presentations (costume changes).
I watched the closing credits closely, and Michael has (present tense because he is still legally represented) many assistants and lawyers! Everything revolves around education from singing, dancing, acting, eating properly, lights, camera, sound, hair, make-up, wardrobe, etc. Those are technical skills that can be learned in school or on-the-job training. If you use an image without getting permission, you may face lawsuits. The lawyer for the other side will be glad to explain to you, in a very educated manner, the misuse of images, material, etc. Then, math class with come into action when he tells you how much you are being sued for inappropriate use of copyrighted material. Again, everything revolves around education, and the movie was excellent! I love you Michael Jackson. You have been "my boyfriend" since the 5th grade. Rest in peace!

BODY PRODUCTS MADE AT HOME I
On Sunday, February 7, 2010, I took The Continuing Education Class entitled Body Product Made at Home I. The class was easy and fun! The instructor started off by explaining important ingredients in everyday household products that we need to recognize. Hands on is the best way to learn, so we had to pick 5 products to make. I picked deodorant as one of my products because if I can make my own, that will save me money that can use for my million dollar wedding one day. I am exited about trying my homemade deodorant, and the teacher told me to e-mail her the results.
I got lost arriving to the studio since it's located outside of my city. So, I followed my classmate back home. I love learning, and I encourage everyone that will listen to me that a college graduation early in life (preferably ages 18-30) is a major key to a successful life. But, as one of my former English teachers said, and I paraphrase, when you think you know everything, you stop learning. I agree. I have "a million" more classes I want to take. I plan to attend college until the rapture because I love school!

GET PUBLISHED AND GET YOUR BOOK WRITTEN IN 30 DAYS
On Friday, February 5, 2010, I took the Continuing Education Class entitled Get Published and Get Your Book Written in 30 Days. The class was awesome. The teacher has been teaching the class over 10 years, and he has written several books. He shared several real life stories of people that have taken his class and have successfully written their first book. That was a great motivation to write and print my first book!
He provided valuable information including websites and telephone numbers about publishing the first book. The free web sites for publishing my book (or at least the first couple of chapters) was very interesting! The teacher explained in detail about the different contracts, and he recommended the one that would provide the book writer with the most freedom to write and receive the most amount of money! The class was two days, and I was unable to make the second day because I had to work. After explaining my situation to the teacher, he provided me with the worksheets for Saturday. I look forward to taking the class again! If I have already written my first book when I re-take the class, the gratitude goes to the teacher for providing his web site, experiences, and explaining the best contract for my money and how to avoid fraud in book publishing!

THIS IS MY BRIEF COLLEGE STORY.
I went to college one year after high school (1991-1992). My family talked about its importance, and a family member helped me with the financial aid papers and all the other college paperwork. I graduated in 9 months and received my license. I had many jobs offers related to my college graduation, and I later regretted not taking those offers. I kept my regular minimum wage job because I was about 19 years old and confused. I still didn't have the concept of school is very important in life. I worked various minimum wage jobs. Family, friends, co-workers, and customers on my jobs kept telling me to go to school. The billion dollar advice went in one ear and out my other ear.
Well, in 1994, I re-enrolled back at my local community college, and I have been in college every since. I am in love with school. I love school. I believe it is the key out of poverty. With my college graduations, I have received jobs with better pay than minimum wage. For example, I briefly worked as an accountant, and I made $12 per hour! The pay increased my standard of living. My education allowed me to make good choices with my money. My former history teacher said one day in class, "Educated people make better choices in life." I agree.
I have graduated college several times, and I get bored easily if my job is not challenging. My friends, former teachers, and co-workers have expressed their opinions about me working regular jobs and not jobs in my field of college graduation. Well, the year is 2010, and I want to be a paid talk show host and have my own clothing line. Those are challenges that will use all my years of college! I look forward to being on TV one day.

I believe education is the key out of poverty. I didn't always like school. When I was in elementary school, I made terrible grades. I still have one of my report cards. My mother used to make me bring home all my books. In middle school, my grades were fair. The counselors would encourage all of us 8th graders to look forward to high school and have fun.
When I entered high school (1987), my freshman and sophomore year grades were fair. I still did not take school seriously. When I was in the 11th grade, I joined the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). I met a special teacher. She looked at my report card and told me that I could do better than that. For the 11th and 12th grade, I tried to make all A's on my report card. I would have 5 A's and 1 grade letter B every time the report cards came out! The teacher encouraged me beyond my wildest dreams about education, and I will never forget her. I graduated high school June 1991.
